What is metabolic conditioning?

Structured patterns of work and rest periods to elicit a desired response from the body. This desired response is usually to maximize efficiency 

What is a VO2 test?

VO2 max, or maximal oxygen consumption, refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise. This measurement is generally considered the best indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The more oxygen a person can use during high level exercise, the more energy a person can produce.

How do I take a VO2 test?

We use a face mask so we can directly measure the volume and gas concentrations of inspired and expired air. This measure is often used in research and is considered the most accurate. The test involves exercising on a treadmill at an intensity that increases every few minutes until exhaustion, and is designed to achieve a maximal effort. We also obtain the individual’s maximal heart rate from this test, which, along with resting heart rate, can be used to develop a more precise target heart rate range.

 

Why is this important?

Without these numbers you are guessing at heart rate zones and ranges. It is also hard to know what zones are weakest and strongest, what your most efficient zone is for racing, and it is more difficult to measure progress

I took a VO2 test now what?

Use the data to create a customized running program. We recommend 3 months to see a real difference in your training and times. 

Where do I go and how much is it?

All VO2 testing is done at Treehouse Athletic Club in Draper. The VO2 test costs members $75 and non members $95. The test and going over results takes about an hour.

I recommend a training session to strengthen leg and core muscles used in running as well as a consultation to go over VO2 results and how to apply them to a running program. The end result of this package is a confident runner who is actively training to reduce injuries, improve performance, and have the ability to understand the how and why behind a running program.

For $295 you receive the training session and exercises to follow, VO2 test, and consultation to apply those results to your running program. I will explain the how and why so you feel confident in making your own running programs to deliver results!
